Beforewatching"Swingers,"IsawJonFavreauandVinceVaughnpairedoffin"Made."Now,Ididntlike"Made"allthatmuch,butthatdidntlowermyexpectationswhenwatching"Swingers."Ialreadyknewthetwoactorshadagreatchemistryandaslongasthescriptiswell-written,theycanreallygoplaces."Swingers"isathoroughlyoriginal,wonderfullywrittencomedythatsfilledwithbiglaughs.FavreauandVaughnscharactersarelikepolaropposites,anditshilarioustowatchthemargue.Therestoftheactorsarealsogood(Ithinktheblackguyistheblindcharacterfrom"Becker"--Icouldbewrong),butVinceVaughnstealstheshowasthesmooth-talkingTrent.WeallhavefriendslikeTrent.SomeofusaspiretobelikeTrent.SomeofusareTrent.Iadmit,IwouldcomparemyselfmoretoFavreauscharacter--themorereserved,sensitivetype.Butthegreatthingaboutafilmlikethisisitsdowntoearth.Itsabouteverydaypeopleineverydaysituations,andIguaranteemanyofuscanrelatetothecharactersin"Swingers"inonewayoranother,justlikehowmanyofusrelatetothecharacterson"Seinfeld."Thisisntaplot-drivenfilm,soyoucancallthisamovieaboutnothing.Itssimplyaboutagroupofstudsontheprowl,hittingtheclubsandcasinos,andsharingtheirphilosophiesonsexanddating.Thereareseveralfilmsthattriedtoreplicatethisformatandfailed("Whipped"comestomind).Ifyoureinthemoodtolaughhystericallyandbewildlyentertained,"Swingers"isthemovieforyou.Aboutmyonlycriticismswouldbeafewlameattemptstobestylish.Comeon,would5guysreallydriveintheirowncarsandfolloweachotherallthewaywithoutanyonecuttingthemoff?
